12.12.2006
On the 1st January, 2006, at 6.30 am, a 16 year-old girl prayed and invited Jesus into her heart for the first time. This was the beginning of the first 24-7 prayer week in Leipzig. During the following week, this new young Christian began praying for her mother, and a week later she too prayed in the prayer room and invited Jesus into her life for the first time.
On the first Sunday in December, 2006, this woman and another young woman were enrolled as soldiers in The Salvation Army.
Leading up to Advent, we have been focussing on who we are as believers, especially believers in The Salvation Army and on what we are called to do: be light to the world, be salt for the earth, and to be holy, as God is holy. We began our first Advent meeting with a time of cleansing and forgiveness – allowing God to reveal areas of sin in our lives and seeking His healing and forgiveness.
The meeting concluded with the enrolment of our two new soldiers – and a time of renewal and recommitment for all who wished to take part. A number of people came forward and knelt at the cross, confessing sins that had long been buried, and receiving God’s forgiveness and healing. Other people renewed their commitment as Soldiers or as Members of The Salvation Army Leipzig, signing the following commitment:
Ich werde die Einheit meines Korps beschützen, die Verantwortung meines Korps teilen, in meinem Korps dienen, das Zeugnis meines Korps unterstützen. I will protect the unity of my corps, share the responsibility of my corps, serve in my corps and support the testimony of my corps.
The presence of the Holy Spirit was very evident as people allowed God to touch, convict, forgive and heal them.
We are looking forward to what’s going to happen next!
